The Possibility Of Same Sex Married Life

By Cathy Mercer

The same sex married life is slowly being welcomed in different societies around the world, especially in cultures that are open and embracing to individuality and true identity. Same sex marriage is also known as gay marriage where the couple has the similar gender identity, or what could be called biological sex. This notion is undergoing a lot of legalization processes and is slowly coming under way to success.

Several pros and cons weigh each other when it comes to gay marriage. The biggest issue that gays handle is the inequality they experience when they want to get married to their loved one. Everyone has the complete right to be with whomever they love. However, in some countries and states, only heterosexuals are legally allowed to proclaim and celebrate their relationships in marriage. This should not be the case because love and commitment is not limited to straight relationships.

A lot of benefits can be guaranteed with heterosexual couples, all of these benefits of health care and insurance should also be applied to homosexual couples. With the fact that in some states, homosexual couples can not be married, the state takes from them the right to access these benefits as a couple. Things such as hospital visitation hours and inheritance rights are also not granted to gay couples.

Whatever values you can see in the society today is shaped by the people, and whatever values the society holds important also shape the people too. Institutions like marriage undergo a lot of changes, especially in the modern times where communication is instant, and understanding other cultures have become very important.

If the state denies gay couples to marry, they somewhat put the lesbians and gays in an inferior position than straight couples. This is a kind of discrimination that will hold the gay couples in a minority group. Not being allowed to marry off would somehow mean that they are not entitled to these rights, which makes them inferior.

Adoption is a very noble act that should be encouraged to all couples. However, it is a very difficult process that requires a lot of work and patients. Gay couples, by their very definition, cannot produce their own offspring, so adoption is usually the option for them. Adoption is a harder process for gay couples mainly because some couples are not wed, which makes it a problem for child care services.

It is also a known fact that marriage provides a lot of stability to the mental and physical well being of the person. Denying gay people to this fact will only increase the likelihood of depression and psychological disorders. People who are allowed to be with the people they love are ultimately happier with their lives in the long run.

Same sex married life is not easier than straight marriages, nor is it harder. It is much like any other loving relationship. However, it could be more fun for the couples since they are of the similar gender, then they would probably have a good idea what the other is going through, so they have bigger chances of understanding each other.
