What West Virginia Festivals Has In Store For You

The events celebrated in different states within the United States have always been unique in their own ways attracting thousands of enthusiasts keen to learn, understand end enjoy themselves. One of the best places to witness the real cultural events as they were decades ago is at the West Virginia Festivals. This is a state that has been able to preserve the mountainous culture of its natives with events spreading throughout the year making it the best place to be in USA.

The State Fair of WV is one of the events you would not want to miss from. It runs for 9 days of August when exhibition of the native economic and cultural heritage takes place. The event is fun filled with family activities, carnival rides, animals, live music, agricultural exhibition, harness racing, nightly concerts, beauty queen competition and bingo contests just to mention a few. It is an annual tradition in Lewisburg, WV that is almost a century old and continues attracting large crowds.

In mid March, the Strawberry Festival is celebrated at Buckhannon. The primary purpose of this event is to promote strawberry harvest but it goes beyond just that. It offers unique entertainment for family with cultural events and educational opportunity for all participants. In the nights of Fridays and Saturdays, there are parties which are presided by quilt shows, art and craft exhibits, souvenir shops, the photography shops, car shows, competing bands and strawberry auction.

Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting is one event you cannot fail to mention in WV. This award winning event take place at the historical spa Berkeley Springs in the late February every year. It features hundreds of water companies (both municipals and bottling firms) competing for the top price in purified water as voted by participants. It is the largest water tasting competition in the world with participants from across US and around the globe.

The month of March is known for Strawberry Festival that is held in Buckhannon, WV with the aiming to promote the strawberry farming. This is a family fan fair full of entertainment and cultural events. Judging from exhibitions ranging from art and craft to photography, this is an event you will want to participate in. There are souvenir shops, car shows, strawberry actions, competing bands music and dance with the highlights being the Friday and Saturday night parties.

When it comes to cultural heritage, there is none better that the Italian Heritage Festivals. The Upper Ohio Valley Heritage Festival is the first of the two held in the late July every year. Within WV, this is the largest Italian cultural event and is the second largest in US attracting almost 200,000 visitors from US and Canada.

The West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival then follows closely in the Labor Weekend of August and September. This is where the rich Italian culture is best honored with the traditions that have been passed from one generation to the other getting opportunity to be showcased. The climax is a three day street match with exhibitions attracting hundreds of thousands.

The list of West Virginia Festivals cannot be discussed fully in one article since the state is known for several national and international events that have remained the tourist attraction for decades now. Being part of this celebration is always fulfilling and memorable.
